Kieran Powell: “I wanted to just spend time at the wicket”

We haven’t seen much of Kieran Powell in the last couple of years. Today he reminded cricket fans that he could be in contention for a place in the squad to face South Africa, when the series starts on June 10.

By the end of Wednesday’s third day of the 4-day Best vs Best game, where players are vying for spots in the West Indies Test team, the left handed batsman had contributed 95 runs to WI Best B’s total of 218 for 4. The Jahmar Hamilton-led team needs just 92 runs to claim victory on the final day.

After the match, the native of Nevis shared his thoughts on the innings and the match, but perhaps more importantly, how his performance has strengthened his chances of making the cut, when the selectors sit to pick the squad. “I have been wanting to get back into the team for some time now,” said Powell, who would be looking to build on his 26.81 batting average, the first opportunity he gets.
