Joshua Da Silva: “I’m sure runs will come”

Speaking with journalists at the end of Day 2 of the 3rd Test match in Grenada, West Indies wicket keeper/batsman Joshua Da Silva was optimistic. And why shouldn’t he be? Coming in when the score was tottering on 95 for 6, in chase of a lead after England had posted 204, he shared in three important partnerships.

The first was with Kyle Mayers totaling 33 runs off 70 balls. Next, he and a competent looking Alzarri Joseph faced 129 balls while adding another 49 runs. He remained not out with Kemar Roach, after that pair put on 55 runs from 103 balls. The runs which took the West Indies ahead of England, were greeted with cheers from the few local fans, and not so much noise from the Barmy Army. The video below captured all balls in that 79th over.

On Day 3, Da Silva will take the runs any way they come. About Friday’s innings he said “I am not too phased about how my strike rate looks. At the end of the day, I am putting runs on the board for the team, which is most important.” How much of a lead is he thinking of? The young Trinidadian would be happy with a 100 – 150 run lead especially as he says the wicket is “pretty flat, it is very nice for batting with the odd one that is staying a bit low. The new ball does a little bit, but other than that, it seems a good wicket.” Scores at the end of Day 2: West Indies 238/8 in reply to England’s 204.

Listen to the full interview below, and don’t miss the first session of play on Day 3. As the young people say, “it is going to be litt.”
