Catching up with Sunil Ambris in 2019

Sunil Ambris’s 94 runs against the visiting English bowlers in their second warm up match was a timely reminder of his ability to score runs. It especially stood out since no other batsman managed more than 22.

Having been seconded to that CWI President’s XI from his regional team Windwards Volcanoes, following their – some would say – unlikely victory over Jamaica, the Vincentian right handed batsman made the second match count. In the first warm up match, he scored just 4.

To wear West Indies colours has always been Ambris’s dream. He first got the opportunity to play for the senior team in 2017 in an ODI against England. Where was he when he got the call that he was selected? What was his reaction? Who did he tell?

After first interviewing Ambris in July 2014, then reading about his 2017 selection, I took the opportunity to catch up with him in Kingston on January 8, 2019 to find out the answers to these questions, and more.

This is part 1 of the unedited audio interview.
